Real Madrid have raced ahead of Barcelona in a bid to sign Real Mallorca starlet Marco Asensio, according to Spanish daily Marca.

Barcelona previously offered €2m for the services of the winger, whose present deal with Los Bermellones runs until 2017.




Asensio’s agent Horacio Gaggioli held talks with Real Mallorca and the interested clubs to discuss the situation ahead of the January transfer window last week, and it is believed that the 18-year-old intends to stay at the Iberostar Stadium until the end of the season.

The youngster may also prolong his stay at Real Mallorca if the club earn promotion back to La Liga.
 


And Real Mallorca are believed to have agreed to let Asensio leave for €4m in exchange for him at least seeing out the campaign.

Real Madrid, who are keen to snap up Asensio, are however flinching at the €4m price tag.

Los Blancos are instead willing to loan Asensio back to Real Mallorca for the rest of the season if they indeed sign him.

The Spaniard’s release clause presently stands at €4.5m, but it will be doubled on 30th June 2015.
