Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho does not like to watch international friendly matches, insisting that is the reason he did not take in this week's clash between Argentina and his native Portugal at Old Trafford.

The game was billed as Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo and attracted a big audience, who saw Portugal run out 1-0 winners on the night.

However, one man who did not make it his mission to watch the game was Mourinho.

Asked today at a press conference about Portugal's games over the international break, Mourinho replied: "The three points against Armenia were important.

"The game against Argentina I didn't see because I don't like friendlies.

Mourinho can now forget about his players having to head off on international duty now until the new year, with the next international break not scheduled to be until March.
