Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he cannot offer a view on Jack Wilshere's alleged head-butt towards Marouane Fellaini as he did not see the incident.

Wilshere squared up to the Manchester United midfielder in the 29th minute of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils at the Emirates Stadium.

He appeared to try and head-butt Fellaini, but could not reach the Belgian, who is considerably taller.

Wilshere was not subject to action due to the incident and was eventually forced off with an injury in the 55th minute, being replaced by Santi Cazorla.

It has been widely suggested Wilshere should have been sent off for the offence.

But Wenger cannot offer a view on that.

Asked about the incident, he was quoted as saying by the BBC: "Honestly, I didn't see the incident."

Manchester United's win was the first away victory of Louis van Gaal's reign and sends the Red Devils up to fourth spot in the Premier League table, while Arsenal are eighth.

Arsenal are next in action in the Champions League on Tuesday, when Borussia Dortmund visit the Emirates Stadium in a crunch clash.
