Andy Carroll has heaped praise on fellow West Ham United striker Mauro Zarate, following the Argentine’s impressive display during his side’s 2-1 loss to Everton on Saturday.

Zarate came on as a 51st minute substitute at Goodison Park, with the Hammers trailing 1-0, courtesy of a first half striker from Romelu Lukaku, and made an immediate impact by netting the equaliser just five minutes after his introduction.

Although the goal was not enough for West Ham to claim a point against Everton as the Toffees scored the winner through Leon Osman in the 73rd minute, Carroll was impressed with his strike partner’s performance on Merseyside.

"He is great”, Carroll told the club’s official site.

“He has got quick feet, he is nippy and he gets in and around defenders.

“He's a great player and he showed that on Saturday because he changed the game when he came on."

Zarate, who joined West Ham from Velez Sarsfield in the summer, has thus made six appearances in all competitions for the Premier League outfit, scoring twice and providing an assist.
