Robin van Persie has revealed he could have ended up at Rangers before he joined Arsenal, but the Scottish giants needed to offload a player before they could afford him.

At the time Van Persie was playing for Feyenoord in the Netherlands, however was looking to move on to continue his development abroad.

Rangers' Dutch manager at the time, Dick Advocaat, wanted Van Persie at Ibrox and the striker was keen to join. The Dutchman feels though that in the end his switch to Arsenal was for the best.

"I was still playing for Feyenoord and I wanted to go there [to Rangers]. I spoke to Dick Advocaat, he was the manager of Glasgow Rangers", Van Persie told BT Sport.

"He was interested, I was interested, I was ready to go. But they first needed to sell one player before they could buy me.
