Former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville feels Liverpool’s current league position is the true reflection of the team’s strength.

Liverpool lost their third Premier League game in a row when they went down 3-1 to Crystal Palace yesterday at Selhurst Park.

It was their fourth defeat in a row in all competitions and they have collected just one point from their last four league fixtures, which has left them languishing in 12th in the league table on 14 points.

But Neville is not at all surprised with Liverpool’s current predicament and feels that last season’s second placed finish was an overachievement of sorts.

The former Everton captain believes that their current league position is the true reflection of Liverpool’s level at the moment, despite manager Brendan Rodgers spending over £100m on new players in the summer.

"Because of what Liverpool did last season, I think some people came into this campaign with unrealistic expectations of what they could achieve this time", Neville told the BBC.

“Rather than under-achieving, their current position is probably a more accurate reflection of this team's level at the moment, especially while Daniel Sturridge is injured."

Liverpool currently have their worst points total after 12 league fixtures since the 1992/93 campaign, when they had only 13 points.
