Celtic assistant manager John Collins has stressed the importance of the Bhoys qualifying for the last 32 of the Europa League.

Celtic are second behind Red Bull Salzburg in Group D and a win tomorrow at home against the Austrian outfit will carry them through to the first knockout round of the competition.

The Hoops are playing in the Europa League because they failed to make it through the group stage of the Champions League, but the club have so far performed admirably in the competition.

They are unbeaten in a group containing the likes of Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb and Collins believes that Celtic have so far done exceedingly well in the tournament.

But the assistant boss stressed that now is the time for the Bhoys to take that final leap and book their berth in the last 32 of the competition with a win tomorrow at Celtic Park.

“It would be a good achievement”, Collins told the club’s official site.

“We knew as soon as the draw was made that Salzburg were a very good team. They beat Ajax 6-1 on aggregate last year in this tournament so that tells you they are a good football team.

“We won the game against Zagreb at Celtic Park but we were fortunate. They were a good team, moved the ball well and had lots of skilful players, so it would be a good achievement to get out of the group.

“We are close but we still have to get a good performance on Thursday night.”
