Los Blancos have been impressed by the youngster’s assured performances in Italy and are ready to make a bid of around €35m to €40m.

With their financial situation, the additional funds would come in handy for Inter during the summer, but the club are desperate to cling on to the talented young midfielder.

The Inter hierarchy are set to meet Kovacic’s representatives soon to discuss the terms of a new contract to ward off Real Madrid’s interest.

But it remains to be seen whether the Nerazzurri can prevent Kovacic from being drawn to playing for a big club such as Real Madrid with Champions League football on offer.
