Leeds United are poised to begin offloading fringe players ahead of the opening of the January transfer window, with Nicky Ajose one of the stars who could be on their way out.

Whites boss Neil Redfearn is keen to add a number of fresh faces to his squad and, despite having insisted he does not have to move players out to bring new players in, is keen to trim the squad size.

According to the BBC, Leeds could send Ajose, who was signed by former boss David Hockaday, to League One strugglers Crewe Alexandra.

Ajose, who spent over ten years on the books at Manchester United, was brought in from Peterborough United for around £150,000, penning a three-year deal.

Another former Manchester United man, Scott Wootton, could also be sent out on loan after falling out of favour at Elland Road, with Redfearn preferring Liam Cooper, Giuseppe Bellusci and Jason Pearce for central defensive duties.

Wootton moved to Leeds from the Red Devils last year, with the Elland Road outfit paying £1m for his services.

Elsewhere, Leeds may also move on striker Noel Hunt, with Ipswich Town a mooted destination.
