Pep Guardiola feels Bayern Munich learnt a “big lesson” following their 3-2 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League last night.

The Bavarians, who have already qualified to the knockout round of the competition, were reduced to ten men in the 20th minute when Medhi Benatia fouled Sergio Aguero inside the box.

The Argentine striker calmly slotted home the resultant spot-kick to give his side the lead at the Etihad Stadium.

However, goals from Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski handed Bayern Munich the advantage going into the half-time break.

The German champions dominated proceedings after the break, but two late Aguero strikes helped Manchester City to edge out the visitors.

And Guardiola, who was proud of his side’s display despite the defeat, wants Bayern Munich to learn from their mistakes in the game.

“Even though we lost, I am very proud of my team,” he told UEFA’s official site.

“We played with ten men for much of the game, despite that we continued to dominate possession and play an aggressive game.

“But that sort of thing happens in the Champions League, perhaps tonight is a big lesson for us.”
