Diego Simeone has hailed his players’ performance after Atletico Madrid moved ever closer to the Round of 16 of the Champions League last night.
Simeone’s men registered a thumping 4-0 win over Olympiacos at the Vicente Calderon with goals from Raul Garcia and a hat-trick from new signing Mario Mandzukic.
Los Colchoneros maintained their lead at the top of Group A and have sealed their berth in the last 16 of the Champions League with a game to spare.
Simeone is delighted with his team’s performance against the Greek champions last night and was pleased with the consistency and the intensity that Atletico Madrid maintained throughout the game.
“We have produced some good performances recently”, the Argentine told UEFA.

“Tonight we had continuity in our game and we were focused on the areas where we could hurt them. Intensity is the key for this team.
“After a tough beginning [with the defeat at Olympiacos] it has been a great effort from my players to take us to the next round.”
A point against Juventus on matchday six will allow the Spanish champions to qualify as group winners.
