Benjamin Stambouli, who scored Tottenham's only goal in their 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade tonight, has explained his military salute celebration.

Tottenham struggled to get going in the opening 45 minutes, looking short of ideas, and the highlight of the first half came with a pitch invasion in the 41st minute, which caused play to be stopped for ten minutes.

Spurs did though take the lead in the second half, after they emerged after the break looking a different team.

Stambouli himself struck in the 49th minute and the Premier League outfit began to boss the match.

Partizan did not give up, but could find no way through the Tottenham backline and slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

One of the talking points was Stambouli's unique celebration, which took the form of a salute.

And the Frenchman was quick to pay tribute to all armed forces around the world.

"My celebration was for all military around the world", he told ITV 4.

"They fight for peace", he added.
