Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has backed goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, but warned the Belgian that criticism of his performances are just par for the course at Anfield.

Mignolet has been slammed this term, with former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar launching a particularly fierce attack recently, during which he said the Belgian is worse than Dracula, as Dracula comes out of his coffin at times, whereas Mingolet never comes off his line.

Rodgers admits he has spoken to Mignolet and claimed the goalkeeper is still in good spirits.

"He's fine. I had a good chat with Simon today", Rodgers explained to a press conference.

"The club paid a lot of money for Simon to come in and he's saved us in a number of games in my time here.

"Simon's form is just like the team, we all need to be better.

"It's never easy, however it comes, the criticism, whether deserved or not, you won't like it.

"All you can focus on is being the best you can be in your next game, your next training session."

Asked whether he might consider taking Mignolet out of the firing line, Rodgers replied: "He's strong enough [to cope].

"You have to embrace it if you are going to be at this level of football. You have to be able to cope with this spotlight, good or bad."
