Brendan Rodgers is unconcerned by Liverpool's current Premier League placing, pointing to Manchester United's points total as evidence that the table is very close.

Liverpool have lost six of their 12 Premier League games this term to sit 12th on just 14 points.

But despite the Reds' lacklustre performances, Liverpool are still only five points off fourth-placed Manchester United, with the battle for a Champions League spot being paramount for Rodgers.

And Rodgers has pointed to the fact as evidence Liverpool are too far off their objective of the top four.

"We're five points off the top four and the points total for the team in fourth is, I think, the lowest it's ever been in the Premier League at this stage", Rodgers explained at a press conference.

However, the Liverpool manager does accept his side have a very different type of challenge on their hands to last season, when they were chasing the Premier League title.

"It's a different challenge because everything has been hunky dory for the last 18 months and on the up.

"It's a different deck of cards we've been dealt this year.

"We haven't been on a good run, but we can let that be the making of us", Rodgers added.

Liverpool are next in action against Stoke this weekend.
