Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has expressed his optimism about facing Premier League side Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup.

The last time the two teams met in the competition was way back in 1973, when the then-second tier side Sunderland beat top flight club Leeds United 1-0 to lift the FA Cup.

And as the Peacocks prepare to face the Black Cats in a third round tie of this season's FA Cup, Redfearn insists that the draw is interesting for his club.

“It’s a great draw for the club”, Redfearn told his club's official site.

"They are a Premier League club and the tie obviously has all the history attached to it with the final in 1973."

The 49-year-old also took time to speak about the kind of challenge such matches bring, insisting that it will be a great opportunity to test his young side against a Premier League outfit.

"This match will give us the chance to test this young side against a Premier League side and it will be good to see how far they have come.

“This is a young side we have here and it will be a great contest for them.

“We’ll go there and we’ll be concentrating on us. We want to put in a good performance and arguably all the pressure will be on them."
