Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal to sign AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy next summer, it has been claimed, as they prepare for life without Marco Reus.

The Italian international is one of the stars of a Milan side that have struggled to reestablish their dominance in Serie A for the last few seasons.

Dortmund, who are struggling in 14th in the Bundesliga this term, are aware that they might lose Reus, chased by a number of clubs including Liverpool and with a release clause in his contract, next summer and are already making contingency plans to soften the blow.

They have been tracking El Shaarawy’s progress in Italy for some time now and are keen on agreeing a deal to sign him at the end of the season.

The Italian forward’s representatives met Dortmund’s hierarchy last week regarding a transfer, according to Corriere della Sera.

The player is believed to have listened to Dortmund’s offer carefully and has so far refused to close the door on the transfer.

However, he still has more than three years left on his contract with Milan, and Dortmund will have to pay a substantial transfer fee if they are to convince the Rossoneri to sanction his sale.
