Napoli defender Raul Albiol has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

Albiol joined the Naples-based outfit in the summer of 2013 from Real Madrid and is a key figure in Rafael Benitez’s side.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s deteriorating relationship with central defender Jan Vertonghen is believed to have prompted the club to look for an alternative option for the January transfer window.

Spurs have zeroed in on Albiol, who they believe will add much needed steel and experience to the Tottenham rearguard for the latter half of the season, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

With Vertonghen believed to be close to an exit, Pochettino needs an experienced head at the back and he believes the Spanish defender will also provide much-needed leadership to the squad.

But Albiol still has more than two years left on his contract with Napoli and Spurs would have to pay a hefty transfer fee for the Serie A side to sanction his sale.

The 29-year-old has also earned 50 caps for Spain and has made 64 appearances for Napoli.
