Celtic are hoping to leave Europe's giants trailing in their wake in the chase for Stromsgodset talent Martin Odegaard by using a secret weapon to convince the midfielder to move to Scotland – Stefan Johansen.

Johansen knows Odegaard well from his time at Stromsgodset, while Celtic also have another Stromsgodset connection in manager Ronny Deila.

Odegaard is wanted by a whole host of clubs, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus.

He has been touring his suitors and training with them and spent time at Liverpool last week.

Celtic are firm underdogs in the chase for the 15-year-old, but Johansen is doing his best to level the playing field.

"I've been talking lately with Martin, especially over the phone and we've agreed to keep in touch", Johansen was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"Celtic would be a good choice for him", the 23-year-old midfielder continued.

"The way we play suits Martin.

"He always wants the ball and can count on us."

Johansen also spoke of just how highly he rates Odegaard, trusting that his father will steer his son in the right direction.

"Martin is great.

"I hope he comes to Celtic.

"The ball is now with his father who is a wise man and wants what's best for his son.

"I'm sure they will make the right choice."
