Manuel Pellegrini wants on-loan midfielder Frank Lampard to stay at Manchester City until the end of the season.

The former England midfielder ended his long association with Chelsea and joined MLS outfit New York City FC this summer, a joint venture between Manchester City and American baseball giants New York Yankees.

Since New York City were not slated to take part in the MLS until next season, the former Chelsea man arrived at the Etihad on loan until December.

And the 36-year-old has been in fine form for Manchester City, scoring five and assisting four goals this season in all competition.

And Pellegrini is hoping that an arrangement can be worked out for Lampard to stay at the Etihad until next summer.

"I think Frank is a very important player for us and I hope we will not have any problems for him to stay here”, the Chilean told the BBC.

"I hope we can have a decision as soon as possible."

But the Manchester City manager is aware that he doesn’t have the last say on extending Lampard’s loan stay and New York City also have to ratify the deal.

"He has a loan just until the end of December and there is another club involved. The MLS is involved also.

"There are a lot of parties with an arrangement. It's not just depending on one opinion.”
