Adam Lallana admits he was impressed with Liverpool team-mate Lazar Markovic during last night's 3-1 win over Bournemouth in the League Cup.

Markovic scored his first goal for Liverpool in the tie at Dean Court, operating in a left-wing-back role, which saw him look dangerous throughout the game.

Lallana was impressed with the man Liverpool paid £20m to sign from Benfica in the summer and believes his performance was "encouraging".

"I thought Markovic was brilliant", Lallana told his club's site.

"He was playing in a different role as well, but he took his goal very well and looked very assured on the ball.

"There were very encouraging signs."

Markovic has been in and out of the side at Anfield since his arrival in the summer, but will be hoping to build on his performance from last night.
