Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny doesn’t have a problem with being vocal to get his message across to his team-mates during games.

In an Arsenal backline that has been suffering from injuries this season, Szczesny has assumed a more prominent role.

He is often seen organising a make-shift rearguard and shouting instruction to his team-mates to get his message across during games.

The Pole admits that as a goalkeeper he has to assume extra responsibility and with experience he has gained the respect of his team-mates who are often in the firing line when he is screaming his lungs out after they commit a defensive mistake.

“You have extra responsibility as a goalkeeper”, Szczesny told Arsenal Player.

“You get older and more experienced, but you get more respect from your team-mates the more you talk to them, even if sometimes you don’t talk to them in the right way.”

The Polish international said that he never had problems in being vocal as a goalkeeper even when he was just a youngster as it is his job to organise the defence in front of him.

“At the very start, my ambition made me scream at people. They were much older than me – I was 19 when I came into the side and I had 30-year-old defenders, so it’s not a natural thing to do.

“You never see any of the team-mates talking back, even if you tell them off because that happens sometimes – as long as I do it in a respectful way I don’t find it difficult.”

Capped by Poland 21 times, at 24, Szczesny has already made 172 appearances for Arsenal.
