Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger thinks that the club's continued presence in the Champions League helped him secure the services of Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez.

Liverpool were chasing Sanchez, but lost the race to Arsenal this summer, as the Chile star chose the Emirates Stadium ahead of Anfield.

Talking about his prized capture, Wenger told the club site “As well, we have [Champions League] continuity. All the player wants to do is play in the Champions League – it is quite simple. We have quite a good continuity on that front.”

Sanchez went to north London after three seasons at Barcelona, where he often struggled to earn regular playing time. The 25-year-old has been a regular starter in the Premier League, where he has racked up 14 goals in all competitions

Wenger, believes this might have also played a role in securing his services, the Frenchman added: “He came out from a period where he maybe didn’t have the number of games he wanted at Barcelona.

“I just tried, like every manager, to convince the player that you can help him to develop the quality of his game, that the way we play football would suit him and that’s why I think he has chosen us in the end”, Wenger further added.

Wenger, will hope Sanchez adds to his nine goals and five assists in the league so far when his team take on Liverpool this Sunday.
