Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard wants team-mate Raheem Sterling to sign a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield.

Talking to the club site, Gerrard said: "I hope he signs a new contract at the club because I think this club is perfect for him.”

The youngster was one of Liverpool’s standout performers as they went within two points of winning the Premier League title last season.

Still only 20-year-old, Sterling’s displays have seen some of the European giants pursuing his signature as he is yet to sign a new contract to tie his long term future to Anfield.
