Louis van Gaal has bemoaned his Manchester United side not beating Aston Villa today, after they drew 1-1 with Paul Lambert's men at Villa Park.

It took only 18 minutes for the home side to take the lead when Christian Benteke beat Jonny Evans for power and curled the ball past David de Gea.

Aston Villa were hungry and regularly looked threatening when hitting Manchester United on the counter attack, but the Red Devils were always dominant in terms of possession.

Manchester United stepped up their efforts in the second half and Radamel Falcao drew them level in the 53rd minute, heading home an Ashley Young cross.

Aston Villa were then reduced to ten men when Gabriel Agbonlahor was sent off for a challenge on Young in the 65th minute.

Despite having ten men, Aston Villa continued to offer an attacking threat, but neither side could find another goal and it ended 1-1.

Van Gaal feels that his side missed out on claiming the win they deserved, however he accepts that there was a lack of creativity and cutting edge.

"Very frustrating. I think we gave two points away. We did not start well enough and because of that they could score a goal", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"We kept the ball well in the first half, but we did nothing with the ball. In the second half was better but not as effective as usual. But that is football, sometimes you cannot force that.

"I'm disappointed because also in the first half we were the better team and when that's the case you have to win.

"But we know that in our first seven games we were also the better team but we did not win many times."
