Mats Hummels has given encouragement to his suitors by expressing his surprise at Borussia Dortmund’s dismal form this season.

The Dortmund side that won two back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012 are second from bottom in the Bundesliga table and are in real danger of being relegated this season.

They suffered their tenth defeat of their campaign away to Werder Bremen at the weekend and it has been claimed several players are going into the winter break considering their future.

One is Hummels, who won the World Cup with Germany this summer. The defender has been linked with a host of top European clubs, including English giants Manchester United.

The defender is amazed by some of the performances Dortmund have put up this season, especially away from home and revealed his frustrations with his side’s current plight.

“We are trying to focus and in the recent weeks, we have improved at home”, Hummels told reporters.

“We seem to have changed something, but it is a different story away from home.

“It is pretty amazing how painful we are to watch on the road.”

Manchester United, who are keen to add a top class defender to their squad, will be closely following developments at the Westfalenstadion.
