Werder Bremen sporting director Thomas Eichin feels Southampton’s new recruit Eljero Elia is a player made for English football.
The Saints agreed a deal to sign the Dutchman on a loan until the end of the season from the Bundesliga outfit yesterday and Elia will join his new team in January.
The 27-year-old has just made ten appearances for Werder Bremen this season and has struggled to nail down a first team slot at the club.
But Eichin feels Elia will flourish at Southampton because he believes the Dutchman’s attributes are perfectly suited to English football.

He is also hopeful that Elia will do well enough to convince the south coast club to sign the 27-year-old on a permanent deal next summer.
“His love for one-on-one situations makes him a player suited to English football”, Eichin told Voetbal International.
“He will get his opportunities. I believe we are going to hear a lot about Elia and Southampton will eventually buy him in the summer.
“If that happens then everybody will be happy.”
