Malky Mackay has warned his Wigan Athletic players to expect a fierce atmosphere tomorrow at Elland Road when they take on Leeds United.

Mackay takes his Latics side on the relatively short trip to Leeds for a Boxing Day Championship clash, looking to earn all three points to help his men climb towards safety.

However, the Wigan boss is expecting a tough task for his players, especially as he believes the Leeds faithful will create an atmosphere to inspire their team.

Mackay told his club's site: "It’s going to be a tough one, Elland Road is never an easy place to go and I’m pretty sure we’ll face a fierce atmosphere.

"There’ll be a good crowd on with it being Boxing Day, and that includes the supporters coming to get behind us."

The former Cardiff City manager accepts Leeds are a club in transition, but feels in Neil Redfearn they have someone in the dugout who will minimise those effects.

"They’re a club in transition again and there have been a couple of managers this year, but Neil Redfearn knows the club inside out and I don’t expect anything other than a tough task ahead of us.

"Neil is very experienced in terms of what he knows about the club, and he’ll certainly have his players fired up."
