Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has tried to take the positives from a day in which his side could only draw 2-2 at home with strugglers Burnley – by pointing at Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Citizens' crosstown rivals could manage only a 0-0 draw at at Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the day, while even before the end of Manchester City's game they knew Chelsea had drawn 1-1 at Southampton.

But Pellegrini's men still blew a two-goal lead against Burnley to draw 2-2, after goals from David Silva and Fernandinho had put them in control at half time.

However, Manchester City lost no ground on Chelsea, while Manchester United did not close the gap on the Citizens. Crumbs of comfort for Pellegrini.

"It was a big opportunity to get two more points. Everybody would think the game was over, but I always say it is never over until the last minute. Burnley's first goal was a mistake of the referee", he told the BBC.

"The pitch was very heavy. Two games in 48 hours, but we were winning 2-0. Once it was 2-2 we didn't have the legs to score. We only had two shots after that. In the first half Burnley didn't have any clear chances. We didn't play well in the second half.

"We have 43 points, we have the second half of the season to decide who is the best team.

"We were at home. That is an advantage, but Chelsea and Manchester United also drew."
