Despite only a draw against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, Juan Mata feels Manchester United have managed to end the year on a positive note.

Though they created some good goalscoring opportunities in the first half, the Red Devils were held to a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane against Spurs.

However, the point was good enough to maintain their third position in the league as none of the teams in the top four managed a win yesterday.

After a torrid start to the season where Manchester United earned only 13 points from their first ten league fixtures, Mata is satisfied with the way they have managed to close out the year with a win and a draw in their last two fixtures of 2014.

The Spaniard is also pleased with his personal form as he approaches a new year, but admits that he needs to keep working hard and remain consistent.

“We have closed the year with two games in just 48 hours and I think the team did very good against two tough opponents”, Mata wrote on his blog.

“Personally I felt really well on the pitch and that makes me look forward to the next stage of the season, to keep working hard so we can do even better.

“Against Newcastle we were the best team and we managed to prove it with nice goals to win the game.

“Then on Sunday, in White Hart Lane, we created enough chances to win again, but we were not very accurate so we added only one point.

“I think the team’s performance in the first half must be the example to follow in order to keep playing good.

“The important thing though is that we haven’t been defeated in the last nine games, and that gives us a lot of confidence.”

Halfway through their campaign Manchester United were sixth in the Premier League table last season.
