Cagliari are launching a push to win the race for Sassuolo striker Leonardo Pavoletti, who is wanted by Leeds United.

Pavoletti has already been over to England to visit Leeds' Elland Road ground and training facilities and it was felt a loan switch might quickly materialise.

But the striker is a wanted man, with a number of clubs in his native Italy believing he can be the answer to their goalscoring woes.

Cesena and Torino are interested in Pavoletti, while Sassuolo are open to keeping him.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Cagliari are now pushing for Pavoletti, with new boss Gianfranco Zola feeling more is needed in his side's attacking department.

Cagliari used to be owned by Leeds' current president, Massimo Cellino, who is himself a big Pavoletti fan.
