Inter Milan are close to signing young German defender and Schalke Under-19 captain Thilo Kehrer this month.

A product of Stuttgart’s youth academy, the 18-year-old joined Schalke in the summer of 2012 and has become the captain of their Under-19 team.

An accomplished centre half, he is a highly regarded youngster in his country and has represented Germany at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

His contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires this summer and Kehrer has refused to sign a new deal with the club.

According to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, Inter have taken advantage of the situation and are close to bringing the young defender to the San Siro.

Kehrer is expected to arrive in Milan next week to complete the formalities and sign on the dotted line with the Nerazzurri.

The 18-year-old’s signing will be a personal triumph for Roberto Mancini, who has been tracking the youngster since his Manchester City days.
