Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has confirmed that the club are no longer trying to pursue a move for Chelsea defensive midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.

The England Under-21 international is a highly-rated midfielder in Chelsea’s ranks and just returned to Stamford Bridge after completing a loan spell at Burnley.

Bordeaux were keen to bring the 20-year-old to the Stade Chaban-Delmas this month on a loan move, but have eventually backed out of the race.

The club president reasoned that the French Football Federation (FFF) and Ligue 1 won’t ratify the deal as Chalobah has already represented two clubs this season.

“The FFF and the league have told us that it is impossible for them to approve the deal, so there was no hope”, Triaud told French daily Sud-Ouest.

“For us, the Chalobah chapter is closed.”

Chalobah made four Premier League appearances this season for Burnley before returning to Chelsea.
