Oussama Assaidi believes he should never have joined Liverpool as he was never given a proper chance at Anfield.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers raided Dutch side Heerenveen for Assaidi in the summer of 2012, but instantly put the Moroccan on the fringes of the first team.

Assaidi saw himself struggle to break through in his first season at Liverpool and was then sent on loan to Stoke City for the 2013/14 campaign for regular first team football.

He was again deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool last summer and loaned out for the season once again to Stoke.

However, the Potters agreed to end his deal early and Assaidi recently joined United Arab Emirates outfit Al Ahli Club.

Speaking at his presentation, Assaidi said: "I did not get a proper chance at Liverpool, even though I did not play badly.

"But the English club were always buying players and I think that my decision to go to Liverpool was wrong.

"My season with Stoke was wonderful."

The 26-year-old winger also revealed that he could have moved to the United Arab Emirates in the summer, but Stoke were not keen for him to end his loan stint.

"I hope to contribute to the development of the team's performance.

"There were negotiations over the summer, but Stoke did not want me to go to the United Arab Emirates. I am glad that they agreed a second time and I am happy playing with Al Ahli."
