Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal holds an interest in former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne – and it is one which does not surprise the player's current club Wolfsburg.

De Bruyne arrived at Stamford Bridge as a highly rated young midfielder. But following the arrival of Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2013, he quickly fell out of favour.

The Belgium international chose to move to Wolfsburg in January 2014, the Wolves splashing out a considerable £18m to bag his signature – and he has flourished in the Bundesliga, leading several clubs to eye up a swoop, including Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Now Van Gaal has steered Manchester United into the race and Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking is not at all surprised, viewing talk of the Red Devils as proof of how well both club and player are doing.

"It is normal that clubs like Manchester United look at top people", Hecking told Sport Bild.

"This is recognition for both his and our work."

De Bruyne's agent, Patrick De Koster, also concedes that his client is a popular man.

"I know that some clubs are interested in him", the Belgian's representative admitted, without naming names.
