Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has said that his selections are based upon their opponents with a view to exploiting their weaknesses.

Enrique, who was appointed manager of the Catalan giants at the start of the current season following the departure of Tata Martino, has guided them to second spot in the league table, only one point shy of Real Madrid, although the European champions have a match in hand.

The Spaniard has been criticised for his constantly changing line-ups, but he has countered by saying that his selection decisions are a result of his attempts to get the best out his team and exploit the weaknesses of the opposition at hand.

“I'm going to continue deciding on the team line-ups as I see fit. It won't be the same starting eleven as I'm also going to be changing the goalkeeper”, Enrique said at a press conference.

He further emphasised that a policy of rotation helps in keeping more players up to speed as the season approaches its business end, making sure as many stars are as fresh as they possibly can be.

“Our idea is to get the very best out of all the squad and to do that I need 18, 19, 20 players who are ready to play at any moment”, he explained.

Barcelona are scheduled to take on Elche in their next La Liga fixture tomorrow at the Martinez Valero Stadium.
