Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro have confirmed that they are selling midfielder Lucas Silva to Real Madrid, with the Spanish side also announcing the news.

Silva has been chased by Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, but it is Carlo Ancelotti's European champions who have won the day for the Brazilian talent, who will make the move to the Bernabeu.

Cruzeiro held a press conference earlier today at which president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares confirmed that Silva would be sold to Real Madrid. The Spanish side have confirmed a contract for Silva until 2020.

While the Brazilian club did not confirm the fee to be paid for Silva, it is thought to be around the €14m mark, €1m shy of the sum demanded by Cruzeiro initially.

Silva's transfer is being rushed through before Brazilian rules governing the third party ownership of players kick in, something which has left the club feeling pressured into his sale, the president confirmed.

The 21-year-old is a product of Cruzeiro's youth system and has been tipped for big things since breaking through into the senior side in 2012.

Silva is a Brazil Under-21 international with seven caps and one goal to his name.
