Brendan Rodgers has praised Liverpool's character following a 0-0 draw at Anfield against Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup this evening.

Liverpool were expected to steamroller the mid-table Championship side, but found it tough from the off, with the Bolton goalkeeper performing well when called upon and the Reds struggling to create clear cut opportunities. The Reds dominated possession with 68 per cent of the ball, but a much changed team, with Steven Gerrard left out completely, could not make the break through.

With a 0-0 draw, Liverpool face a replay to qualify for the next round of the competition. But Rodgers is not disheartened and believes that such games test the character of teams, with his passing the test, while others might have lost.

He told the BBC: "It was a really good game. I enjoyed it, a great atmosphere and a credit to both teams, I thought we were excellent. We did everything but score. I am really proud of the team. We kept knocking on the door, their keeper made some great saves.

"We are still in the competition which is important. There are games which if you are of lesser character you might lose. This is a very prestigious competition, we want to do well in it."

Rodgers also stressed that there are no easy games at any point in domestic cup competitions and declared himself happy with his side's positioning and confidence on the pitch.

"There is no team in this country who is an easy game.

"I can't complain, our confidence and positioning was very good, we got into good spaces but that final touch was not there."
