Italian giants AC Milan are looking at the possibility of signing former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt as a stop-gap to replace Stephan El Shaarawy.

Kuyt is set to quit current club Fenerbahce at the end of the current campaign, with a return to Feyenoord, where he remains a cult hero due to a spell earlier in his career, high up on the Dutchman's agenda.

But according to Turkish broadcaster Lig TV, AC Milan are showing strong interest in the 34-year-old and have penciled him in as an option to replace El Shaarawy.

The forward has been ruled out for a minimum of two months after he fractured his metatarsal in a defeat to Lazio at the weekend.

And now AC Milan are on the hunt for low cost replacements for the forward.

El Shaarawy has been dogged by injuries for over a year, with another foot injury keeping him out of action for several months last term.

It remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce will be willing to part with Kuyt this month, or demand the Dutchman see out his contract in Turkey.
