Young Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop believes that manager Louis van Gaal has shown through his promotion of Paddy McNair that he will give talents a chance and stick by them if they perform.

McNair was called upon due to a defensive injury crisis at Old Trafford earlier this season and has continued to stay around the first team squad, with his progress impressing Van Gaal.

The Dutch manager has also handed opportunities to another young defender in the form of Tyler Blackett, while striker James Wilson has featured too, despite the presence of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie up front.

For Harrop, who is looking to catch Van Gaal's eye with his performances at Under-21 level for the Red Devils, cases like McNair's are encouraging, proving the Dutchman will stick by those who do well.

"Paddy has come on massively. He's playing first-team football and has done well", the midfielder told MUTV.

"The manager has just stuck with him, he's proved he is good enough to play, so he has played.

"That's the aim and what I want to be doing – progressing, playing regularly in the Under-21s and proving I can play at that level.

"Then I want to progress into the first team at Manchester United."

Harrop, who is an England Under-20 international, will hope to impress Van Gaal this evening when Manchester United Under-21s take on their Liverpool counterparts at Leigh Sports Village.
