Manchester United target Kevin Strootman is expected to miss Roma’s clash against Empoli on Saturday due to a knee injury.

Strootman was taken off in the 34th minute with a knee injury in Roma’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina at the weekend and there were concerns raised that it was the reoccurrence of his previous injury that kept him out of action for around nine months last year.

The Dutchman returned from a cruciate ligament injury towards the end of last year and Roma were worried after he complained of knee pain on Sunday night.

But it has emerged that the injury is not as serious as previously assumed and according to Corriere della Serra, the player has already started physical therapy.

However, as precaution, Strootman has been ruled out of their next fixture against Empoli next Saturday. He is though expected to return to action soon.

The former Netherlands boss is keenly following his performances at Roma this season and is said to want to completely assess his fitness before he makes his move at the end of the term.
