Mattia Destro has knocked back any suggestion that he could join Tottenham Hotspur and has chosen to sign for AC Milan, on an initial loan deal, from Roma.

Spurs have been talking to Roma over snapping up the Italy international, with the Giallorossi wanting Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches as part of any deal.

However, Destro does not wish to join Spurs, despite the fact they would offer a more lucrative package both for Roma and for himself.

Indeed, according to Sportitalia, Destro has instead set his heart on joining AC Milan, despite the fact they want him on loan first, before a permanent move, while Spurs were happy to pay an outright, up front fee for a transfer.

The Rossoneri are now on the brink of taking Destro on loan until the end of the season, for a fee of between €2m and €3m, while a purchase option will be included in the deal, set at between €12m and €13m.

The 23-year-old was schooled in the youth ranks at AC Milan's rivals Inter, but started his senior career with Genoa.

Destro switched from the Rossoblu to Siena in 2011 and wasted little time in making his mark, earning a big-money move to Roma the following year.
