Real Madrid captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas has revealed that he is open to the idea of playing in the MLS in the future.

After a difficult two seasons at Real Madrid, where he was not the first choice goalkeeper, Casillas again firmly established himself as the club’s number one this season under Carlo Ancelotti.

Though still 33, there has been speculation that Real Madrid are looking to sign a long-term replacement for their captain and Manchester United’s David de Gea has been strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Casillas himself is contemplating his future and said that he is open to the idea of playing in the MLS in the United States in the future.

The Spain captain added that he doesn’t want to play for a club that might compete with Real Madrid and stressed that he is keen on tasting a different kind of football, which the MLS could offer.

"I wouldn't be able to leave Madrid and sign for a club that competes against them”, Casillas told the Wall Street Journal.

“But maybe I will look for a new adventure in different and growing league like the MLS.

"I would like the experience of a different kind of football and if that came tomorrow it would allow me to remember and value the time I have spent at Madrid."

Casillas has made 702 appearances for Real Madrid and amongst various other honours he has won the Champions League three times with the club.
