Newcastle United are again on the tail of Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, having asked the Bundesliga side about the 23-year-old's availability.

Lasogga has been linked with Newcastle in the past, notably towards the end of last season. He joined Hamburg last season on a season-long loan from Hertha Berlin, with the northern German club making his move permanent last summer due to his impressive performances.

The Magpies' interest in Lasogga has not waned however and again they are keeping a close watch on his availability.

Hamburg sporting director Peter Knabel told Sport Bild: "There have been requests, but no offer."

Lasogga has featured on a regular basis for Hamburg this term, but has struggled in front of goal, hitting the back of the net just twice in 16 Bundesliga appearances so far.

It remains to be seen whether Hamburg would be open to selling Lasogga if Newcastle firm up their interest with an official bid, however the striker is locked down on a contract at the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2019.

Lasogga spent time in the youth ranks at Schalke and Wolfsburg, but made his senior debut with Bayer Leverkusen's second string.

The 23-year-old joined Hertha Berlin in 2010.
