Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has confirmed that Lionel Messi and Luis Enrique did have a heated confrontation earlier this month.

Earlier this month there was speculation that Messi had fallen out with the Barcelona boss and wanted the club hierarchy to make a choice between him and Luis Enrique.

There were also rumours that Messi was so disillusioned with life at Barcelona that he was prepared to leave the club, with talk of Manchester United and Chelsea interested in signing him.

But with several positive results under their belt, Barcelona seem to have weathered the storm and Enrique looks a lot more secure in his post.

However, rumours of Messi being unhappy with Enrique’s coaching style are still doing the rounds and Mathieu revealed that Barcelona boss and the Argentine striker did have a heated confrontation after the squad returned from their winter break.

“All of a sudden Leo lost his composure in training after being on the receiving end of a foul that wasn't called. The situation got pretty tense and a few harsh words were exchanged.

"These things happen all over the place, but with us it's been exaggerated.”
