Rangers striker Kenny Miller believes that Celtic may be the favourites in the Old Firm clash on Sunday, but the Scottish Championship outfit have the potential to cause an upset.

Kenny McDowall’s side have been drawn to play Ronny Deila’s men in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Rangers are currently sitting second in the second tier of Scottish football with 41 points, 13 behind the leaders Hearts. On the other hand, Celtic are enjoying a rich vein of form as they sit atop the Scottish Premiership table as they bid to win their fourth successive title.

However, Miller believes when it comes to a cup game an upset cannot be ruled out.

“Forget Old Firm games, any cup tie, there are upsets and we have been upset and Celtic have been upset in the past few cup competitions”, Miller was quoted as saying by the club site.

“Listen it might happen, but to have the expectation that any team will walk it isn’t right and those words can come back to bite you in football.

“I think if anything it’s going to make things even better because of the anticipation.”

The derby has not been played since April 2012, and Miller believes the long absence of the fixture will further add to the spectacle at Hampden Park.

“It’s been in the making a long time, the draw was two and a half months ago, the fact we haven’t played each other for three and a bit years is always going to make it that little bit more special.

“It is a game that not just Rangers and Celtic fans and players have been looking forward to but I think everyone in Scottish football has been for a long time now.”

Sunday’s victors will face the winner of the other semi-final between Aberdeen and Dundee United in the final of the Scottish League Cup.
