Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has saluted Daniel Sturridge after he scored on his return for the Reds today, bagging the second in a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Liverpool quickly took control of the match, with much possession, but West Ham stood firm and were able to withstand pressure from the home side to keep the scoreline at 0-0 at the break.

The Reds though took the lead in the 51st minute, with Philippe Coutinho playing in Raheem Sterling, who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

Liverpool welcomed back Sturridge from injury, the striker replacing Lazar Markovic in the 68th minute, and he quickly made his mark.

Again it was Coutinho with an assist, playing in Sturridge, who made no mistake with a well-taken shot drilled into the bottom corner.

Liverpool continued to push, looking comfortable, with West Ham struggling to deal with Sterling. Sturridge scuffed a shot which could have brought a third, but with the game ending 2-0, the Reds claimed three points.

Rodgers feels Sturridge's goal was just reward for his hard work, telling LFC TV: "He's worked very, very hard and it's just a case now of managing his time into the team.

"It was a great touch and finish for Dan and I'm delighted for him."

And Rodgers, talking to the BBC, expanded on how happy he was with his side's performance, saying: "It was a very good game on the back of 120 minutes during the week.

"We knew it would be a tough game, so we knew it would be hard.

"It was a very good winning performance."
