Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has explained it is a pleasure to play alongside Mesut Ozil, after the German shone in the Gunners' 5-0 demolition job on Aston Villa today.

Arsene Wenger's side took the lead when Olivier Giroud angled a precise shot into the back of the net in just the 8th minute of the match.

The Gunners had to wait until the second half to extend their advantage, with Ozil this time the goalscorer, hitting a well-struck shot in the 56th minute.

Walcott then took advantage of a superb Arsenal break to make it 3-0 in the 63rd minute, while Santi Cazorla made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 4-0 in the 75th minute.

Hector Bellerin then poured more misery on Aston Villa by scoring in injury time to bring up Arsenal's fifth.

Post match, Walcott was keen to pay tribute to Ozil, who he thinks has reaped the rewards of working hard to recover from his injury layoff. And the England forward is delighted to be able to play alongside the German.

"Mesut has worked tremendously hard to recover from injury, like myself. They always say it's not going to happen overnight, but it has for him – two goals in two games", he told Sky Sports.

"I haven't played that much with him since he joined the club, his touch, and his general play is fantastic.

"I'm very grateful to be able to play with him and hopefully we can both stay fit now and charge on from here."

And Walcott explained that from a personal point of view, scoring was perfect.

"It is always nice to get goals, especially at the Emirates. My little boy was here today too.

"The finish was great and it's such a relief to get that goal out of the way, but it is all about the three points."
