Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton feels the Hoops will dominate a one-sided Old Firm derby against Rangers today.

The two bitter rivals will face each other for the first time at Hampden Park in the Scottish League Cup semi-final since Rangers’ relegation to the second tier of Scottish football three years ago.

There is excitement around the match in Scotland as Celtic and Rangers are set to reignite a rivalry that dominated the country’s football for decades in the past.

However, Sutton feels the game itself will fail to live up to the hype surrounding it. The former Celtic striker has backed his former side to absolutely dominate and win the game against Rangers, feeling that Ronny Deila's Bhoys are superior in every department.

The 41-year-old understands the hype and excitement surrounding the game, but feels the quality of football will not match the Old Firm derbies of the past, when both teams went toe to toe for the top honours in Scotland.

"When you strip it all back and look at the eleven players starting, Rangers will not get anywhere near Celtic. Celtic will dominate possession, they will dominate territory", Sutton told the BBC.

“This game is going to be the most one-sided derby beforehand, but in my era, you could never tell which way it was going to go.

"Rangers had a strong team and we were vying every year for titles and cups and it was extremely exciting. This will be exciting in a different way

"Three years of excitement and the build up, it is going to explode on Sunday, but there's only going to be one winner and one winner comfortably.”

Both have clashed 47 times in the Scottish League Cup, with Rangers winning 24 and Celtic winning 21.
