Everton manager Roberto Martinez was waved away thoughts that Aaron Lennon is anything other than delighted at joining the Toffees.

Lennon linked up with Everton from Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day, but questions were soon asked about how happy he was to move.

Photographs taken by Everton's photographer showed Lennon with what appeared to be an unhappy face, something which forced the player to issue a statement claiming he is delighted with the switch.

And Martinez has suggested the photographer is to blame and not Lennon.

"I blame the photographer. It's your job to make him smile for the pictures", Martinez smiled, speaking at a press conference.

"But I saw a difference face, a focused face, someone who is ready to perform", the Spaniard added.

Martinez believes that the England winger is now ready to be thrown into action, while he also thinks he will be a real asset over the rest of the campaign.

"Aaron is an incredible performer at this level. He has beaten some landmarks in the league already and has incredible international experience.

"He's ready for this weekend [against Liverpool], which is rare for a January signing."

But Martinez will not necessarily throw Lennon into action in the Merseyside derby this weekend, feeling the winger still has to get up to speed.

"We need to be a little bit cautious. It's important he knows the way we play as a team, but he will be in the squad and I expect him to have a big influence.

"We have a lot of games in the next six or seven weeks, so he'll have a big role to play."

All eyes will be on Lennon to see whether he makes his Everton debut in the fiercely fought Merseyside derby against Liverpool this weekend.
