Former Liverpool midfielder Alou Diarra is on trial at MLS side Chicago Fire as he searches for a new club at which to continue his career.

Diarra terminated his contract at Premier League side West Ham last summer after a disappointing spell at Upton Park.

The midfielder, who was tipped for big things when Liverpool tempted him to Anfield from Bayern Munich in 2002, joined the Hammers in 2012 from Marseille, but almost instantly fell out of favour.

He spent time back in France with Rennes in 2013 before returning to West Ham in the hopes of breaking into the team.

Now Diarra, 33, is aiming to win a contract with Chicago Fire and has joined up with the team for their pre-season training camp.

Chicago Fire are currently overseas building up to the new MLS season and Diarra has linked up with the side in an effort to prove himself.

A vastly experienced midfielder, Diarra has won 44 caps for France at international level since making his Les Bleus debut in 2004.
